Could You Please Recommend If There Are Any Alternative Places In Paris For Hippie/artists ?
Hello, this holiday i am going to Paris with my mother and elder brother. I have been to Paris before and did not care for it much. I found it was too high-end for me. not just that but the people looked at e with disgust whenever id follow my mom into Hermes or Louis Vuitton (or however you spell it) perhaps because we are such polar opposites.. When i went a few years ago i had a very hard time finding great spots that were less like Manhattan and more like Portland (Oregon) – a city which i love. When i traveled to went to Brussels and Amsterdam (of course:) it wasn’t hard to find galleries, skate parks, graffiti and vegetarian food which was a wonderful “plus” and made me feel right at home. Although i recall when i went to France a few years back there was almost nothing vegetarian nor any alternative like minded souls i like to mingle with. I really don’t want the same thing to happen again so, i am bringing lots of vegetarian snacks but the most imperative point is that i need your recommendations of where some cool places would be for me to hang out, perhaps read and be around like minded folk who wont stare disdainfully at my dreads and laid back demeanor. It would mean a lot to me if you could recommend a place or perhaps two. As my Brother and mother enjoy the same gist- tourist destinations such as the Louvre and photographing the Eiffel tower like madmen. I am of a different breed and it would be wonderful to maybe find a great used bookstore, reggae bar or what not where i could mingle, mix and be.

About me: I’m 25, professional (but work to live, not live to work), very into rock climbing and telemark skiing, and liberal.
I currently live in Denver. I like Denver because of it’s proximity to the outdoors. However, I don’t like the lack of culture and suburban feeling Denver has (even downtown feels like a suburb). Additionally, most people here are conservative, materialistic, products of society who only talk about the Broncos, John Elway, their trucks/SUVs, and whether they prefer Applebees over Chilis. Overall, I would rather live somewhere more cultural, urban, and progressive but still be able to pursue outdoors sports. Do you think Portland is a good choice for me based on what I described?
Also, how far is the nearest skiing? Is there rock climbing nearby? What would be a good downtown neighborhood for someone like me? How much would it cost to buy a 1-2 bedroom condo in a good downtown neighborhood?
