Hot-shooting Portland beats Santa Clara 84-78

Ryan Nicholas had 19 points and eight rebounds and Portland shot 73.9 percent in the second half in an 84-78 victory against Santa Clara on Thursday night. Tim Douglas scored 16 points and Thomas van der Mars added 11 points and nine rebounds for the Pilots (6-17, 3-17 West Coast), who made 17 of 23 shots from the floor after intermission.

Standish and Gonzaga women roll over Portland

Kayla Standish scored 18 points to help No. 20 Gonzaga beat to a 77-56 victory over Portland in a West Coast Conference game Thursday night. The Bulldogs (20-3, 9-1), who reached 20 wins for the sixth straight season, also got 10 points from Haiden Palmer. Taelor Karr had eight assists and Standish also had eight rebounds as Gonzaga outrebounded the Pilots 53-33.
